You Can Beat Procrastination
“Procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday.”
Napoleon Hill
PLEASE TAKE NOTE!!! There is no one strategy, there is no universal panacea, there is no one size fits all cure for your procrastination that's why I ask questions in the book, it's so that you can fit the material to your unique needs.
What I and anyone else who has written about procrastination can do is to give you the tools which cann help you to regain control of your life, but ultimately the will to change has to come from inside of you.
Procrastination is a vile, filthy thing that steal our most precious resource, time. Every moment that we lose a moment that is lost to us for all time, but you can change.
The mind is an incredible thing, when it works against us it can drag us down, but when we make it work for us then anything is possible.
Always remember that you own your mind, it does NOT own you.
What I really hate about procrastination is that we all know, that at some point, whether we like it or not, that we're going to have to get stuck into whatever we've been procrastinating. Instead of doing what needs to be done we fill our time with pointless minutaie, and yes that might make us look busy, but it doesn't move us forward, it's almost as if you're stuck in time until you can deal with your tasks. Now I admit that procrastination might not be such an issue if you're avoiding something at home, but it's a different story if you procrastinate at work.
Procrastination isn't a physical thing, it's in your mind, so in order to defeat it we need to address issues such as your self-esteem, willpower, motivation and assertiveness.
I have included a series of exercises through the book so that you can personalize the training to your specific situation and needs.

You Can Beat Procrastination (Your Personal Development Book 2) eBook Michael Finlayson Reviews
I think that there is the potential for this book to be helpful. It has a lot of advice, but the outline form and millions of questions made it hard for me to follow. He asks a question and then lists (in outline form) a bunch of sub points. Maybe it is just me, but this didn't help me... I didn't want a workbook of "answer this question and think of all scenarios." I wanted a method to fight procrastination.
If you are looking for a workbook/"seminar" kind of thing, then this would be perfect.
Before I read this, I would have said there is nothing that can change me and make me not as much of a procrastinator. But Michael Finlayson has a style of writing that leads me to believe I can change. I especially like the way he asks so many questions. This really makes the reader think and I know I spent some uncomfortable moments evaluating myself and my habits. If you treat what he teaches seriously, I know you can change. I know I have.
You Can Beat Procrastination offers tips about being more positive, assertive, how to plan and organize, take things in workable chunks and not get bogged down in the fear of failure or frustration or anger or perfection, asking for help when needed and more. The author offers a plan to analyze what's stopping you so you can eliminate what's holding you back and get you on your way to just do it - whatever needs doing.
I found this book to be very insightful, and I believe that anyone who is struggling to find the motivation to get the things that they know they should get done, actually done, would benefit from reading it. The author delves into some of the possible underlying reasons why we so often find it hard to get going, and then goes on to show how those issues can be addressed so that procrastination can become a thing of the past, and our lives can become more productive and satisfying. A highly recommended read.
I really think others will beat procrastination by taking action like the Author suggests.
When asked to be honest with myself, and query my strengths and weakness's, I really can't explain what happened next but before I knew it, page-by-page I was overtaken. Newfound sparks of ideas and strategies, flooded in and haven't stopped.
The old me has been reborn, I not only wanted to learn this books steps, I needed to learn more... and more I did, so a big bunch of thanks to this awesome book which leaves me so much more time for other things. Take action...and beat procrastination
I've reviewed some of Michael's books in the past, but this is my favorite to date. Probably because I tend to procrastinate doing the stuff I really dislike. I'm in the process of packing and moving right now and I have a lot of stuff I could procrastinate about! However, I took one of Michael's suggestions and focused on what I could get done - and ended up just making a list of things I could get packed, from the easiest to the most difficult. Doing that alone has helped me over the "doing nothing" hump. Good info here - if you put the yucky stuff off, grab this book.
A detailed guide on how to overcome procrastination and achieve more every day. The author explains why we procrastinate and what to do about it.
This is not some superficial information on setting up a to do list. The author goes into detail about the common causes of procrastination such as self esteem issues, negative thinking and stress and how they affect our ability to get things done. Recommended.
Upon reading this rather unassuming lil' book, it became clear to me, the writer was 'feeling' exactly what it was I was feeling, and the very 'reasoning' that actually in the end prompted me to pickup this book.
It was obvious he was someone who has struggled but also has overcome this debilitating 'disorder'... I say disorder, because that's exactly what it brings, disorder lol! I must say it is for this very reason, it was quite an enjoyable and valuable read for me. You can tell just from the chapter headings, that this is someone who has shared the 'experience' and Overcome; with such section headings as; "The Joys of Procrastination", "Your Assertiveness", and "bringing Everything Together", which for most of us, (amongst the tweets & Facebook updates), is a logistically nightmarish reality!
It was the way in which the chapters were laid-out that really helped me counter each of my specific self-limiting traits, one at a time. Under each chapter heading is a list of bullets of restricting patters we can address by using the often very 'simple', yet very over-looked or 'under-practiced' elements we can all adopt, for healthier more productive day!
All-in-All; I learnt lot's of things from the book, that I simply didn't think about myself before, or if I did; I procrastinated doing it, thinking it really wasn't worth the effort, but after reading the author's experiences, I 'Know' I can do the same!
Pros The Step-By-Step Analysis of 'Restricting' Habits, and How To 'Tackle Em', One-At-A-Time...
Cons None really that I can think of, there were afew minor grammatical errors, but nothing major!
Many Thanks to the Author!
~ I highly recommended This to anyone who needs yet another tool in their anti-procrastinatory arsenal!
